This comes in at 46% ABV and is natural colour and non chilled filtered. Great specs to start for an 18 year old. I picked this one up for about $150 CAD.
Nose – I first get a sulphury note, like a struck match. Then there is dark fruits, dried fruits, raisins, prunes, dates, fruit cake and baking spices. There is also a little hint of oak in the background. Really nice nose. 17/20
Palate – big stewed fruits, some cola, baking spices, sherry toffee and a little oaky vanilla. The nose absolutely tracks to the palate. There is a really nice oiliness to the mouthfeel. Amazing! 39/50
Finish – this is a nice medium finish with a strong leather note, a little citrus, and finally an oily oak that is a bit drying. 16/20
Brand/Bottle – I feel neutral to the bottle. It’s nice. It works. But it doesn’t standout. 3/5
Value – an 18 year old for $150 that is this good?! Yeah this is an easy 5/5 for value for me.
Overall – an amazing dram adventure that I would highly recommend checking out. This is absolutely adventure worthy!
