It’s time for another review! Tonight’s #dramadventure is the Old Pulteney Coastal Series Pineau Des Charentes Wine Cask Matured.
Specs – 46% ABV I’m pretty sure it’s non-chilled filtered and it’s natural colour, but I wasn’t able to 💯 confirm that so if you have that info pop in down in the comments.
Nose – the nose was really nice. You could tell right off the bat that with was matured in a wine cask and that it was Old Pulteney. Honey malty notes with a white grapes and white raisins notes. Then a little white pepper with some apricots. Really nice nose. 16/20
Palate – you get a nice sweet and salty note from the start then you get the wine white grapes with some white raisins and those apricots again come through. A little vanilla & caramel and some spiciness. 39/50
Finish – it’s a nice medium finish with a nice hit of salted caramel. Then some black pepper, cloves and raisins left lingering on the palate. 15/20
Bottle – I have a soft spot for Old Pulteney and I really like the bottle design look and feel. To me it’s kinda nice old school simple scotch. 4/5
Value – I paid about $125 at the festival (discounted) but I’ve seen it at around $135-$140 a regular price and I think that’s okay value but seems a little pricey in my opinion. I’d think this would be more around the $100-$110 price range for me. 2/5
I love Old Pulteney and this is a beautiful offering from them. I was very happy to be able to pick this one up at a whisky festival we attended. At that $125-$130 price it is a little steep but if you are a fan of Old Pulteney or love your wine casks this might me worth checking out. Is it adventure worthy? Yes it is 💪
