Kilchoman is one of my favourite brands of scotch whisky. It’s always a dram a reach for.
Specs – this comes in at 57% ABV it is natural colour and non-chill filtered. Great specs love the high proof.
Nose – the nose for a batch strength felts a little subtle. Like it was holding back its awesomeness. I got a nice light sweet smoke. Toffee caramel vanilla mix that I really liked. Then there was some great green grass earthiness to it. Finally campfire s’mores. 15/20
Palate – okay here’s where this dram gets serious. Peat, and loads of it and I am really loving that. Peppery raisins, then it opens up to toffee creaminess. So creamy is the mouthfeel. It again reminds me of a smoked werther’s or some other chewy toffee. Then a little grassy and a little farmy note. The balance is really well done with some nice complexity to the dram. 42/50
Finish – amazing finish for the strength that it is. Big Smokiness to finish that keeps you coming back for more. The mouth coating follows all the way to the end that has a nice pastry 🥐 cream dessert taste. 17/20
Bottle – love the Kilchoman brand and love the bottles. Not perfect but still better than most brands. 4/5
Value – at $130 CAS I think this is price fair for what you get and the quality of how awesome this whisky is. 3/5
Overall – love Kilchoman and this follows suit to how great the brand is. I wasn’t sure if $130 was worth it but I’d have to say for me it absolutely is. It’s complex and well balanced. It gives you a lot to think about but is also not too overwhelming or overpowering. This is 💯 adventure worthy.
