This one has sentimental value to me as it was one of the first sherry cask scotches I fell in love with. Let’s see how it stacks up today.
Specs – it comes in at 46% ABV it is natural colour and is no -chill filtered. Awesome! Great specs.
Nose – I get lots of dried dark fruits like plums, dates and raisins. Maybe some hints of malt and there is even some dark cherries that I’m picking up. 14/20
Palate – more of the same all the way through. I get some nice raisins, dried dark fruits, fall notes like dead leaves. It’s a little dusty, toffee, some nice oak and brown sugar. 37/50
Nose – a really nice medium finish with some peppery notes, some spice, light tobacco and a little leather. 15/20
Bottle – I like the rebrand compared to the older bottles but it still just middle of the road for me. 3/5
Value – I paid about $90 CAD for this bottle. Which is okay value, maybe a little high. I’d think it would be better priced around the $80 mark. 2/5
Overall – I like the GlenAllachie 12 year old and I would recommend it but I do think there are better cheaper options out there. It’s good, it’s a middle of the road sherry cask whisky and I think everyone should try it. So in the end I do deem this adventure worthy!
